Latest commit fa8 Sep 9, Introduction Intel has made available a toolkit for helping the development of device drivers and low level software or firmware which interface with each other according to the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface specification UEFI.

Some most? Although the tianocore community has been very active adding new components to the EDK for a few years now, there appears to have been no focus on making it easier for a wider audience to start experimenting with UEFI and DUET. While this is probably acceptable for programmers who earn their day developing device drivers and such low level software, these aren't the kinds of tools that application programmers and enthusiasts would want to have to use just for a sneak preview.

Even more so, as it seems incomprehensible to require the Windows DDK for building stand-alone binaries which don't depend on Windows NT or the mingw version of GCC which is intended for compiling Win32 programs, which is also clearly not the case. The scope of this project is therefore simply to make it easier for a wider audience to compile and run DUET. The first task of this project is to create a new boot program which is able to load and execute DUET from a hard disk partition.

The first stage is the sector that lies on the boot sector of the drive. There are two versions of this stage: - Mbr. The function of this stage is simply to load the first sector of the partition containing the remaining software and execute it. There appears to be nothing wrong with Gpt.

The next stage is the sector that lies on the first sector of the boot partition. There are three versions of this stage which we will call collectively bootsect.

All versions of this stage suffer from the cylinder limitation. There are six versions of this stage which we will call collectively start. The first bytes of start. BIN files and only then it passes control to the remainder of start. The remainder has the function of switching to protected mode and then, in the case of X64, to long mode. The final stage of booting establishes interrupt handlers for processor exceptions and also has two versions: - efi Our first problem is to address the limitations of bootsect.

Our own boot program, BootDuet. S We replace both bootsect. You seem to have CSS turned off. Please don't fill out this field. Do you have a GitHub project? The computer is a MacBook Pro 9,2. I have read so much and I'm very confused. I downloaded the Clover app that puts a little icon in the top menu bar. I'm guessing that's old and not to be used?

I also have the clover configurator 5. The videos go so fast and don't cover everything. Where can I find instructions.

This isn't a hackintosh, its a real Mac. Can it be setup so I don't have to hold the option key during boot up and it goes straight to the clover menu? I've been told not to mess with clover because its too advanced for me and to use rEFInd. I'm kinda lost with it too. Hello all, I am writing this blog to help other folks attempting to implement a nvme boot system. This is to help other folks get here and acknowledge the work by many other google bloggers I referenced and the folks doing Clover EFI.

I am posting this forum because it didn't work for me and why it didn't work.

The problem is this early EFI implementation did not allow me to write the bios efi to overcome the lack of a nvme driver so the OS's could load after installation. I think a recompiled Duet with the proper nvme driver would work. My system is a Z xeon v2, 24gb ecc ddr3 ram, dual 10gbe, 8x SAS raid card, nvme pcie extender, K video card, kingston 5 bay hot swap, 2x8tb sata, 2x4 SAS, 3x4 sata raid0 16tb,12tb,8tb and 4 gb SSD's and the gb nvme.

EFI allows for drivers to be added. Of note visualbcd, uefitool and Supergrub again clonzilla, macrium, minitool, hirens, bobs, gandalfs boot iso's. I used 4 ssd boot drives for multiple boots in addition to the NVMS drive.I do not know if this is the proper place to ask this due to such specific tools being used. Notwithstanding, Sal's tech support community has never failed me and it's always my first choice!

I will try to keep this short.

It is the key to using hard drives larger than two terabytes without requiring them be partitioned. Say that the procedure goes as planned and I install Windows and start using my three terabyte hard disk as my main drive for a while. I will eventually buy a new motherboard which will have native UEFI support. When that happens, will I still be able to use my hard drive without the need for formatting or any data loss?

The problem is that DUET will still be installed on it. I've looked through the wiki pages for both of these projects and haven't found a way to uninstall them. A solution might be to boot the Windows install with DUET being on a flash drive and then, once the install has completed, and Windows has automatically created the ESP which the guide I'm using recommends to do if one gets errors related to the ESP partition, which means so far this is all possiblesomehow back up the partition copy it to another drive???

That way I could format the partition and put back the unaltered ESP when finished. I do not know if this is possible and how I'd go about the partition stuff I haven't messed with it if you could not tell. Update 2: This post list three possible ways of restoring a deleted ESP.

The first and second don't seem to be of help, but the third one seems like an option. The guide I am using states that for Windows installation s, bootmgfw. The problem with the third option in that external post is that the author seems unsure of what he is saying.

I need to know that it can be safely removed so my data doesn't end up being inaccessible or corrupt. He states that files may need to be configured specifically for my OS. I have doubts that bootmgfw. I am also worried that perhaps that files on the ESP might change as I use my computer and not just during the installation of Windows 7.

The build executable comes from the DDK, and should be available without having to specify a path if you opened a DDK console. If you cannot invoke "build" from the commandline, then either you haven't opened a DDK prompt which is different from a regular console Windows or your DDK environment isn't setup properly.

I guess the error you get is the logical consequence of the above. Please make sure you open a DDK prompt before invoking the other commands. Petes, Thanks for replying. I think something was wrong with my Win DDK installation. I couldn't locate the DDK console. So I used a normal console and CDed to the build.

I'm downloading the DDK again and I'll see what happens. The folder names you list above don't exist on a fresh install. Please help me in this. Having a Duet boot disk does not mean that it's going to work with all hardware. I'm afraid you'll have to dig into EDK development to figure out why your system doesn't boot. Hey Pete, Love your blogs. I got a prebuilt Duet package that I installed to usb key and Im trying to get rid of the delay at the shell where youve got 5 seconds to escape out of running startup.

Normally i would set the nvram variable to pass the delay but its an old machine. At first the usb key refused to load my shell.

There it would load at boot but crash after map-r displayed all the drives. Was wondering if you have any suggestions? Only problem is, that if on-board USB 3. I have flashed the latest available firmware into the USB chip 3.

Is there any way to boot DUET with the 3. Could anyone give me a hint on this problem?Users, who have any problems or questions regarding the guide, may post them directly sibliss until Nyctophilia is back. Changes to the configs can be made out of your favorite OS via text-editor. Disadvantages: - Slightly longer boot times This can be decreased by changing values inside the config. Feedback is welcome and needed!

How does it work? It's easily replaceable and fastforward to install. You also don't have to worry about data-loss when updating it.

A good reason to install it to a SATA-device might be, that you don't have any USB-ports left or if you are using a notebook I don't consider sticking out USB-drives as a permanent and convenient solution. But check first if you have a cardreader, especially when you own a notebook.

In BDU, you still have to enable the listing of internal, fixed disks first. Keep in mind that this installer will wipe the selected disk completely, so backup your data beforehand. If you find another way to install it without endangering the whole disk, just tell me. I will add it as an alternative option to my guide.

Installation: 1. Open up BDU. Boot Disk Utility 2a. Softly click on "Format Disk" and wait for the magic. If that's not the case, BDU failed. Access your Cloverstick via Explorer. I can't tell you if it will work like described. You can check if the driver is loaded properly by opening the Clover-EFI-Shell and just typing "drivers".

It should be listed at the very end. Just change the number. Setup the freshly created stick as primary boot device. Change your bootorder. Exit and Save Changes. Attach your Windowsinstallation media. Boot into the Clover-EFI bootloader. Continue with your Windows setup and delete all partitions on your NVMe-drive. Install Windows to your drive as usual.

Wait for the installer to finish. If you followed the guide correctly, the Clover-EFI bootloader should detect your Windows installation and boot from it.GitHub is home to over 40 million developers working together to host and review code, manage projects, and build software together.
